Natural Fibres Only
We’re committed to using fabric made from natural fibres wherever possible, and only use those that meet our quality standards and that hold specific certifications (see below). As part of our efforts to be part of the solution, we want to invest our efforts in fibres that are given to us by Mother Nature.
A very small percentage of the garments use synthetic materials, specifically the zippers, beads, boning, hook & eyes and buttons. We’re constantly on the hunt for sustainable alternatives that have the standard of quality we’re looking for and that are cost-effective for a small business like ours. Unfortunately, sustainable alternatives of these things are not as common, or have a price point that is beyond our reach. We will replace them as soon as we find the best solution.
Grade A Silk
We specialize in 100% silk garments, using Grade A silk.
Why we love silk:
- Silk is a natural protein fibre made from the cocoons of silkworms.
- Silk is 100% naturally odorless, hypoallergenic and antimicrobial.
- Silk is naturally temperature-regulating.
- The silk we use is Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified sourced from our supplier in New York.
- Our silk is also GOTS certified that ensures the organic status of textiles.
It is important to us that we source fabric of the highest quality that meets global standards set by Oeko-Tex, the world's best-known labels for textiles tested for harmful substances. Any fabric that is Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified means that it is free from harmful chemicals and completely safe for human contact during the production process.
Our fabric also meets the Global Organic Textile Standard which aims to “define world-wide recognized requirements that ensure organic status of textiles, from harvesting of the raw materials, through environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing up to labelling in order to provide a credible assurance to the end consumer."
